WHAT WE DO
We purchase new, first-quality inventories from some of the most prestigious furniture makers in the country and then pass the savings along to you! We enable you to have direct access to the finest high-end contract upholstery materials at a fraction of the wholesale cost. By buying excess inventories, we are reducing the amount of non-renewable materials going into landfills and thus reducing our footprint on the natural environment. Please see our Green Business Plan for more information on our efforts to grow a sustainable company.
WHO WE ARE
Our company has its roots in a family run upholstery shop founded in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1959 by Mason and Virginia Terry. Aptly named, Terry's Upholstery grew from a true mom and pop organization to one of the largest regional upholstery companies in North Carolina. After four years of planning, research, and implementation on the internet, we established Silverstone Fabrics and Retro | Modern | Contract | Fabrics. We have recently merged our Retro and Mid-Century Modern fabrics into Silverstone Fabrics. We also have items on eBay at http://stores.ebay.com/silverstonefabrics78. Finally, our website dedicated to our commercial upholstery division, Silverstone Upholstery/The Upholstery Solution, is at http://www.silverstoneupholstery.com. Our professional staff possesses over 50 combined years of expertise in custom furniture, upholstery and fine fabrics and leathers. We are happy to assist you with any sort of guidance or advice you need!
Diane Terry, CEO, Director of Retail and Online Operations
Diane’s life “before fabric” was one of research, writing and teaching. After earning the MA in History from Appalachian State University in 1983, she taught World, American and Local History for 25 years--half of her career at Appalachian and half at Caldwell Community College. In 2006, with Steve’s assistance, she established an eBay company called silverstonefabrics. Under her direction, silverstonefabrics has been transformed from a small home-based business to a company that has grown by 30% per year for the last three years. In fact, silverstonefabrics has allowed her to retire from teaching and join her husband full-time in the fabric business. The company has shipped fabric and leather to every state in the union as well as to over twenty countries. Diane’s research, writing and organizational skills, as well as her broad knowledge of history, art, industry and culture make her a valued and integral member of our fabric team.
Steven Terry, General Manager, Director of Sales and Custom Operations
After graduation from Appalachian State University in 1978, Steve joined the family business, Terry’s Upholstery, located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The business had been established in 1959 by Steve’s parents, Mason and Virginia Terry and, of course, Steve grew up “at the shop.” In 1983, Steve took over Terry’s Upholstery and under his leadership, the business evolved from a true “mom and pop” operation into a regional upholstery company with clients throughout the southeast. Some of Steve’s clients include Levine Children's Hospital, Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte Convention Center, Lowe's Hardware Corporate Headquarters, Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, Wachovia, City of Durham, University of North Carolina--Chapel Hill, University of North Carolina--Charlotte, University of Alabama--Birmingham, Broyhill Inn and Conference Center--Appalachian State University, Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Sonoma Restaurant, Bank of America Corporate Headquarters, Discovery Place, Charlotte Property Management, among many others. Steve has also owned several retail fabric outlets in the Charlotte area and established two eBay companies. In 2006, Steve moved to the mountains of North Carolina and, together with his wife, launched Retro | Modern | Contract | Fabrics, an online fabric store. Steve’s extensive knowledge of high-end, luxury upholstery fabrics for use in both residential and contract settings spans three decades. In addition, his vast custom furniture experience gives him a unique perspective on textiles, allowing him to see fabric both as art and as function. To see our collection of residential fabrics, please visit our eBay store, silverstonefabrics78.
